Restoring Dignity aims to reduce the number of homeless and poor families living in motels through support services that will enable them to gain and retain permanent housing and achieve independence.
Restoring Dignity’s goal is to ease adversity and promote stability, dignity and self-reliance for homeless families’ living in motels.
Our History:
Three former motel residence, the group mainly, self funded; provided basic toiletries items, school supplies or just listened to them without judgment. Thus began the unofficial community organization, Restoring Dignity.
Today:
Restoring Dignity, Inc. received LLC in August 2012, and is pending 501c3 (non-profit) status; we hold a State of Georgia Business license, have a temporary professional Board of Directors and pending accreditation in Georgia.
We continues to provide support and basic aid to families living in motels, advocates for the motel families, and collaborates with other service providers to identify the resources available to motel families. In Virginia we currently have 6 volunteers who provided basic services such as listening, allowing someone to use their phone number for jobs, etc. They are currently funding by community grants.
It is our goal not enable or make anyone comfortable, instead help to restore their families in a positive and supportive way.
Our Future:
Currently we rely on community grants and In-kind Donations to fund our efforts. We have been offered various federal grants, because our program is the only program in existence in both Virginia and Georgia that addresses the needs of this population.
We current accept donation and were expecting 6 grants over the next year in addition to private funding which has been pledged.
