Housing Assistance
|

Also includes; credit counseling, apartment/lease negotiating, assistance with utilities (deposits) and budgeting workshops
The goal of Restoring Dignity is not to provide 100% food assistance to motel families, rather to help supplement the monetary resources that the families do have, and to help them stretch their resources as far and efficiently as possible, to encourage responsible budgeting and money management. Many families reside in one room with as many as eight to a room with no cooking facilities or just a hot plate and either no refrigerator or a very small mini refrigerator. This allows children to attend school appropriately attired and parents to have the proper clothing needed to attend job interviews and successfully gain employment. Most motel families are forced to place all their belongings in storage facilities which if not paid on time will not allow them access to their belongs. The motels rooms are too small or tight to store various needed clothing items. Arts and crafts and game sessions led by teams of volunteers are provided at the motels weekends and or afternoons. Volunteers act as mentors and lavish much needed individual one-on-one attention on the children, increasing their sense of self worth and potential to succeed in life.
